Shedding the masks that hide our true selves

Saturday Aug 08, 2020
My guest, Michelle Anhang, reminds us to not just tolerate life, but to live it on our own terms, unapologetically. She talks about the power we have to challenge society's views of what it means to be "good" and instead choose to show up as our truest selves. Michelle believes that the "greatest gift we can give our kids is to model authenticity". Once she released the weight of the secrets and shame surrounding her husband's death, she was able to live her life at choice and at peace. Michelle found that when she opened up and shared her truth, she was met with love and support and was able to experience a new depth in her relationships. She has realized that being raw and vulnerable is her super power - one that gives others the space to do the same, which is a very special gift.

My guest, Courtney McLeod, encourages us to appreciate the unique things that make us who we are. She reminds us that when we "feel like pulling back...lean in" and show the world our authentic selves. It's when we have the courage to do so that we find deep connections with OUR people. Courtney is passionate about bringing groups of women together - she provides safe, supportive spaces for women to connect, celebrate each other and have amazing adventures that remind of us of the power of play. She challenges us to explore failure by doing things that push us out of our comfort zone and build confidence, all in the spirit of personal growth and fun.

My guest, Ariel Ng-Bourbonnais, shares her infertility and pregnancy loss journey. There is often stigma and shame around this topic and Ariel wants to change that. This led to her co-founding The 16 Percent, which provides women and men a safe place to share their stories. From this movement, came her book "Through Not Around", a collection of personal essays that aims to show those with a shared infertility and pregnancy loss experience a way through grief and a path toward healing. Ariel believes in the importance of embracing one's vulnerability and emphasizes that we all have a "unique story and it deserves to be told".
